Extremely choppy video even while bench testing at home

Hi,

I just followed the stock setup with identical hardware and software on both sides. But I am getting extremely choppy video with huge latency. I am testing it at home, not connected to a drone or any other RC tx/rx. I also tried turning off my home WiFi but no luck.

Here is the video uploaded to my Google Drive.

Here is my setup

Computers: Raspberry Pi 3B+
WiFi dongles: TP- LINK TL-WN722N
Power: 5V/3A UBEC connected with a 3S 5200 mAH Lipo battery
Camera: Pi Cam V2

Since it’s just a bench test, I have connected WiFi dongles via USB (no direct soldering).

I have checked the forum, nobody else seems to have this issue but I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much in advance.

Hello,
2 very likely possibilities:

  1. If you bought the WiFi cards new they are probably eighter V3 or V2.
But only the V1 has the atheros AR9271 chipset you want for 2,4ghz.

  2. power issues, try to power the wifi cards in parallel to your Pi, directly from the bec.

Or both.

Happy Troubleshooting :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve never liked the 722n v1 cards for the air. Good in a reciever role tho

I will try both of your suggestions, thanks.

Would you also suggest any WiFi cards that are sure to work?

I don’t mind troubleshooting afterwards for range/latency or similar issues but I prefer to have a base version working out-of-the-box, it’s just me

Haha I wish I knew that before buying
Any advise on what may work flawlessly ?

Guys,

I found everything I needed on this page: WiFi Adapters

Reading the Wiki again also helped a lot.
There was a significantly amount of delay between me reading the Wiki and then working on the project, I think that’s what caused all the confusion.

Anyways, with a much clearer head, I am on my way, will keep you guys posted!

Thanks once again
